Mala necklaces have a rich history, dating back 3000 years ago, to Buddhist and Hindu prayer based in India. Nowadays, they are more frequently used in yoga and general meditation practice. They are often used to count mantras or intentions in a set of 108 repetitions, hence the use of 108 beads. They can also be used to count breaths, or simply to aid focus and concentration. The 109th bead, or the Guru stone, is intended to symbolise a spiritual being or teacher associated with the wearer. It provides a start and an end point for the counting of the beads. Most commonly, they are finished with a tassel, which has served as a talisman and symbol of power and protection throughout history.
With a selection of beautiful genuine gemstone rounds (8mm), hand knotted between each bead with nylon cording, and finished with a handmade tassel, these malas are of the highest quality.
